Secrets of Aussie online entrepreneurs May 1, 2014 21:18
I was pleased to join three exciting entrepreneurs and a CSIRO executive at the “Secrets of Aussie Online Entrepreneurs’ events at Monash University, Berwick Campus last Thursday evening.
Kate Morris was first up. She is the founder of Adore Beauty, a leading online retailer in cosmetics and beauty products, and a proud NORA member! Kate grew up in Launceston, Tasmania and had always bemoaned the fact that all the hottest beauty products mentioned in the magazines were only available to those who lived in the big cities. The seeds of Adore Beauty were sown. After studying a Bachelor of Business at Monash University while working on the cosmetic counters in established department stores, she decided to create an online beauty boutique that would allow women everywhere to access the best products, anywhere, anytime. She won the 2010 Victorian Telstra Businesswoman of the Year.
Next up Jeremy Samuel, a serial entrepreneur. A Melbourne guy, with an American twang, from his time spent in the Valley, no not Monee Valley, Silicon Valley! His new project, LeadIQ/Spondo, soon to be launched, was demo’d. Looks to be an exciting way to use rich video content to interact in real time with shoppers online. Watch this space.
Mark Middo thrives on unconventional ideas. As the founder of Social Empire and Reminisce Entertainment, Mark specializes in finding unique marketing angles and leveraging them to create remarkable revenue growth. Over the last decade, Mark has used this growth hacking system to fuel the success of several unique online businesses. Mike is an expert at helping SMEs and corporate workers launch their online passion project on the side while working full-time.
Last up, Damien Thomas, Group Director, Business Development, CSIRO Manufacturing, Materials & Minerals . Damian had some handy tips on how entrepreneurs can access CSIROs’ partnerships and grants to help them leverage the brainpower and resources of their top scientists and engineers. If you have an idea for an invention and want the support of Australia’s top research organisations, Damien is your man.
A thoroughly engaging evening with around 120 attendees very engaged and asking awesome questions.
